Free Insulation Grants: Save Up to £300+ Per Year
Last updated: February 2026
Several government-backed schemes provide free insulation for UK homes. Proper insulation is the single most effective way to reduce energy bills and keep your home warm.
Types of insulation available
Cavity Wall Insulation
Fills the gap between your inner and outer walls. Suitable for most homes built after 1920. Can save around £200/year on energy bills.
Loft Insulation
Added to the floor of your loft space to prevent heat rising through the roof. Government recommends at least 270mm depth. Saves around £150/year.
Solid Wall Insulation
For older homes without cavities. Can be applied internally or externally. More expensive but saves up to £400/year on heating.
Underfloor Insulation
Insulates suspended timber floors to prevent draughts and heat loss. Particularly effective in older properties with raised floors.
