The main government schemes available to homeowners and tenants in England and Wales
Warm Homes Plan and Local Grant
The Warm Homes Plan is the wider government policy. Its England-only Local Grant route is administered by councils for qualifying privately owned homes.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Installer-applied vouchers for eligible low-carbon heating in England and Wales. The voucher reduces the quoted cost but may not cover it all.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)
ECO4 makes larger energy suppliers deliver qualifying home improvements. Ofgem states that ECO is not a grant scheme and funding is not guaranteed.
Insulation funding routes
ECO4 and the England-only Local Grant can support insulation, but funding, measures and contributions depend on the official assessment.
Energy support for first-time buyers
First-time-buyer status does not create a special energy grant. New owners must meet the normal rules for each scheme.
Landlord EPC requirements and funding routes
The minimum EPC standard is a legal rule, not a grant. Some separate schemes may help with eligible work.
